What shall we do? Where shall we go?
Global warming is melting all the ice in the Artic and Antartica. It is melting also the glacier in the Andes, Himalayas dan others mountains. According to geologist calculation the sea water will rise between 7 meter to as high as 40 meter in the next 40 years. That is frightening for me living in an Island that is not too far from the sea. Are we going to live like the Dutch with Dyke? Do we have to migrate to Malaysia or Indonesia? It is sad that we have to lose everything that we have so hard to built? I wonder if the government have a plan already in mind to protect our island country from this?Pytanie #2:

Poll: If your life depended upon it, would you resort to cannibalism?
For instance, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 "Andes flight disaster" happened in 1972, 45 people on the plane (including a Rugby Team) crashed into the Andes, many survived the accident itself, but then many died of starvation. Some resorted to cannibalism of the dead bodies to survive, whilst others refused and also ultimately perished. Due to the acts of cannibalism, 16 people survived. If you was thrown into a situation such as above - would you resort to such extreme acts to survive?
@Jen, I wouldn't. Although "technically" according to the Pali texts a Buddhist can eat meat under certain conditions. For edible flesh to exist to eat, then it has a connection between the death. I personally believe to eat any flesh (No offense intended to those who eat meat) can show a thoroughgoing insensitivity to life itself.
Excuse the typographical error.
"Has a connection between life and death" **
@Hotstar - the Dalai Lama practises Tibetan Buddhism, although stricter, it breaks many rules of that of traditional Buddhism practised across India and South Asia.

- Between a Rock and a Hard Place (a hiker was trapped, after a boulder fell and pinned his arm. He had to cut off his own arm in order to escape)

AREQUIPAOn the skirts of the western range of the Andes, at the foot of the Misti volcano, Arequipa (2,350 m.a.s.l.), Arequipa is the capital of the department of the same name. It is a beautiful city of mansions, temples and convents built out of 'sillar' - a material of solidified volcanic rock -, and distinguished by a unique architectural style. Arequipa is surrounded by magical countryside giving it a refreshing, bucolic air.
On the Arequipa outskirts you'll find fascinating villages with stepped terraces dating from pre-Inca times that are still used today by farmers from the districts of Chilina, Socabaya, Paucarpata, Characato and Sabandia.
Arequipa is located in the south of Peru at an altitude of 2,335 meters above the sea level and approximately at 1,000 kilometers from Lima, the Peruvian capital city. Arequipa is the second largest and most important city in Peru.
Arequipa is settled in a plain ground surrounded by three great volcanoes of over five thousand meters high. The Misti (5,825masl), a perfect cone mountain tuned into the tutelary volcano of the city, works as a central landscape background for this large city and his history feeds the Arequipenos pride.

Is this AGW brought to its most ridiculous idea to date?An artist is to paint some Andean mountain summits with a "whitewash" in order to reflect back the Sun's rays, thereby helping glaciers to stop melting. It should be remembered this is funded by The World Bank, yours and mine money.
One of the men involved stated that if it works, water will flow again and they could keep more livestock.
Two problems here: More livestock means more Methane, yes?
What amount of fossil fuels were used to get the paint to the summit?
Is this not the inevitable result of the AGW hoax that schemes can even be considered? What a laughingstock any believer in AGW must be feeling after reading this.
You couldn't make it up, could you?
A small team from a nearby village have already begun the project, which will eventually whitewash over 170 acres of mountainside on three Andean peaks. Painting at a rate of 2.5 acres a week, the project will likely take over a year to be completed.

How does my answer violate the community guidelines?
Question : "I'm torn about the global warming debate...?" (In the additional details she asked for opinions on global warming). My Answer: " I believe in anthropogenic global warming because it's supported by a large amount of scientific evidence.
A. CO2 emissions are increasing (causing global warming). In 1870 the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere was about 290 ppm. As of 2010, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has risen to 390 ppm. As explained below, very carefully calibrated measurements have confirmed that humans activities are the primary cause of this increase.
Since the industrial revolution, we've been burning fossil fuels and clearing/burning forests at an unprecedented rate. Through the measurements of specific carbon isotopes, we know these activities are the primary cause of increasing atmospheric CO2.
There are 3 different carbon isotopes: 14C, 13C and 12C. CO2 produced from burring fossil fuels and clearing/burning forests has a unique isotopic composition. This is because plants prefer lighter isotopes, that is they prefer 12C vs. 13C. Thus, plants have lower 13C/12C ratios. Fossil fuels are derived form ancient plants; therefore, they also have a lower 13C/12C ratio. When fossil fuels are burned, CO2 from these ancient plants is released into, and mixes with, the atmosphere, thereby lowering the average 13C/12C ratio of the atmosphere. Scientists have documented lower 13C/12C ratios in tree rings, ice cores and ocean samples; a result of the decreasing atmospheric 13C/12C ratio:
B. CO2 is greenhouse gas. Increased CO2 will, in theory, lead to an increase in the greenhouse effect. Satellites have measured a decrease in outgoing longwave radiation and ground stations have measured an increase in downgoing longwave radiation, proving there has been an increase in the greenhouse effect. Studies have also shown a direct correlation between anthropogenic greenhouse gasses and the observed increase in the greenhouse effect.

C. In theory, an increase in the greenhouse effect would lead to an increase in global temperatures. Many studies show this.
D. In theory, an increase in the greenhouse effect would lead to stratospheric cooling. As the lower atmosphere warms due to an enhanced greenhouse effect, the upper atmosphere is expected to cool as a consequence. The simple way to think about this is that greenhouse gases are trapping heat in the lower atmosphere. Since less heat is released into the upper atmosphere (starting with the stratosphere), it cools. Many studies show the stratosphere is cooling.

E. In theory, global warming would lead to an increase in the tropopause height. The tropopause is the atmospheric boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere. Because the troposphere has warmed and the stratosphere has cooled, the tropopause has risen several hundred meters over the past 3 decades.

F. Arctic sea ice is declining. In the last 50 years Arctic sea ice extent has been declining at a average rate of about 30,000 square kilometers per year.
G. Glaciers are retreating almost everywhere around the world — including in the Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, Alaska and Africa.
H. Sea level is rising. (Sea level rise is caused by the thermal expansion of sea water due to climate warming and widespread melting of land ice.)
I. Ocean heat content is increasing. The oceans have absorbed much of this increased heat, with the top 700 meters (about 2,300 feet) of ocean showing warming of 0.302 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969. "

Who knew that the answer to global warming was to paint the ANDES mountains?
And this lunacy was funded by who?excerpt...
By painting the mountains, Eduardo Gold hopes to replicate the effect of Andean glaciers, which reflect back sunlight and hence heat back through the atmosphere.
The £135,000-project is funded by the World Bank after Mr Gold won a "100 Ideas to Save the Planet" competition last year.
The World Bank last year estimated that 22 per cent of Peru's glaciers have melted since 1980 and there are projections that all the country's glaciers could disappear in the next 20 years.
While novel the painting scheme is not the only outlandish way of tackling global warming proposed. Firing mirrors into space to reflect the sun's rays, or feeding cattle garlic to reduce methane emissions have been mooted.
Locals who have witnessed the destruction of the glaciers are strong supporters of Mr Gold's scheme. "All the peaks here should be painted in this way," said Pablo Parco Palomino. "That way there would be as much water as there was before the glacier disappeared, and that would mean more pasture to support more livestock."
But Antonio Brack, Peru's Environment Minister, told the World Bank that its funding would be better spent on other "projects which would have more impact in mitigating climate change."
He said: "It's nonsense."
Mr Gold believes he can put the theory into practice and get results. "I'd rather try and fail to find a solution than start working out how we are going to survive without the glaciers, as if the situation was irreversible,"

I recently visited Ecuador and stayed in the andes mountains for a week. A few days after i came home i noticed what i thought was a zit on my pelvic/bladder area. It itched really bad at first and now it's just painful and it has begun to spread. I know their not zits because when i tried to pop one it was filled with blood. I've had all the necessary shots (yellow fever, typhoid, malaria, hepatitis, all that jazz) And no, there was no sexual contact with anyone on my trip.I don't mean to be gross, but i'd really like to know what it is. They look very much like pimples but they are yellow and dark green in the center and like i said, very painful!
Unfortunately it's contagious too. My boyfriend (who did not go to ecuador) has one in the same area from skin to skin contact.
If you have experienced this or might have an idea of what it might be please let me know!
